The week before tech week

My daughter's show is in less than 2 weeks.  This week is the week before tech week, which means rehearsals, and sewing, sewing, sewing.  (I am in charge of costumes).

This is the last show I will be costuming for my kid's homeschool program, but I am becoming really serious about working/interning for a local theater next year to get some more experience and maybe going into doing this full-ish time.

Meanwhile, I will enjoy this last show for what it is, and enjoy working with the kids and parents one last time.

I can't believe this school year is winding down so quickly!

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas

I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas, which can be difficult to do in Atlanta.

However, my daughter's homeschool drama club at Artios Academies is doing Irving Berlin's White Christmas, the musical.  I am telling everyone that will listen "you will be upset if you miss this."  You will.

Here's a teaser from the actual Broadway Show:
She is playing the older lady you see at 0:12 in the video. The role is Martha, a wise cracking former Broadway star. She has an amazing solo and a couple other fun songs. Her role is mostly comical. Of course, she's not the only kid in the play. There are others.

Listen to me.  These kids are really talented.  This is not your school-type play.  They are pre-professional and serious actors competing regularly (and winning) in programs like Christians in the Theater Arts (CITA), Bob Jones High School festival and the GA Shakespeare festival.  THEY CAN ACT. 

So come on out and see the show.  You won't regret it.

It's tech week!... and other stuff

Tech week starts Saturday.  My daughter will have drama club rehearsal and set building every.single.day and for many hours each day.  All other learning will stop.  It will be hard for me to work.  We will be eating, sleeping, buying junk food and fast food, and getting back to business.

oh, and here's my daughters finished ball gown for the show. We did some costume reshuffling.  Her purple ball gown was remodeled to be  her can-can outfit.  The top to the can-can outfit and underskirt are now the ballgown.  (We added alot of lace trim)


 In other news, the ACT is coming up a week after the show.  My sons (my son and his friend) practice test scores look very good.  Here's to hoping they don't panic on the test.

What a great... and difficult week

 Tech week if over and 5 shows where performed.  Somehow, I damaged my back during the week making it more interesting... I can't bend.. or sit.

Did I mention that Seussical the Musical was FAB!

It was an exhausting week, but the shows were fabulous and it was on overall great experience. Here are some pics. My daughter played the Sour Kangaroo! (striped outfit). My son worked the microphones in the sound booth. (tall boy next to my daughter below).

Two plays down one to go

We just finished a run of Once Upon a Matress for my daughters Drama club. My son's class did The Secret Garden earlier this year.

Coming up in one month is the combined production of Suessical the musical.

Using Halloween Costumes for Drama Club

I spent the whole day on drama club duties. The homeschool program my kids go to is having three plays this year. The first on is Secret Garden, the second is Once Upon a Mattress Jr., and the third is a musical called Just So.

Our first play is coming up fast so I have to collect all the fees, order all the t-shirts, and arrange for rehearsal meals, cast dinners, and parties. When I wasn't doing actual drama club duties, I was scouring websites for costumes for the productions. For the second play especially, Medieval, Renaissance, Lord of the Ring, or Maid Marion Halloween costumes will serve our needs just well. I especially like the one in the above image.

I realized that Halloween Costumes make great drama and play outfits last winter when my daughter was in the Bugsy Malone Jr. Play, we were able to get great flapper outfits for the showgirls, as well as gangster outfits too. I noticed that the halloween costumes are of much better quality that what was available when I was a kid. In fact, many of them can be washed and worn again and again.
